Saturday 31st May - Lindfield Village Day. Again, big thanks to those who helped, Gary, Phil, Keith, Chris, Kayleigh, Nicky, Cathy and Jo for making the Village Day a huge success. As a result of efforts, we got £31 in the bank, but most importantly we raised our profile and have been invited back in 2009 and 2010 and 2011!!

Saturday 24th May, - Burgess Hill Tin Shake, big thanks to Gary, Cathy, Jo, Simon, Kevin, Richard and Paul for their efforts in raising £162 in Burgess Hill High Street.

Saturday 26th April - All hands on deck at the MDR studio, as the new soundproofing was installed. The old was over 10 years old and breaking off creating a considerable amount of dust. The committee decided now was the time to replace it. Nicky, Mike, Julia, Sarah, Richard, John O'Sullivan, and Simon, spent a good few hours taking down the old and putting up the new, click here for studio photos!

Richard Lee interviewed local singer David Hay on Wednesday 27th February.

MDR's Year in Review 2007

Despite the lack of updates, (for which I'm sorry for, life goes a bit weird sometimes!) Everyone at MDR has been busy bees.

March - A mini collection in the Orchards Shopping Centre (about an hour!) raised £20.95

April - Another of Dave Turners legendry quiz nights saw 10 teams battle it out to win the much sought after wooden spoon! That honour was given to Nicky and David from the MDR team. The stations team might have lost but the station won on the night raising £345.

May - Burgess Hills turn to meet the MDR team, Linda Wishart, David Eggleston, Gary Simons, Steve Watson, Hannah Watson, Richard Lee, Julia Mewes, Cathy Barnett, Paul Howard, Simon Barrie and Charlene Byrne all helped to raise £228.70

June - Lindfield Village Day, a whole heap of the MDR team turned up on Lindfield Common to help raise MDR’s Profile even more. With the help of Balloons, and other bits and pieces, we raised £36.75. The day was more of a publicity event for MDR than about raising money, but still another £30 odd quid for the coffers.

July - Cathy Barnett went to great lengths to ensure the 2007 Garden Safari was a success, even ringing in to big local radio station Southern Counties to promote the event, which result in a couple coming all the way from Eastbourne to have a look round peoples gardens. Despite the weather of the previous few days, the event raised £400.81

July - the beginning of plans to ‘dress’ the new Outside Broadcast Unit which was bought in December 2006. K2 in Tunbridge Wells were the only company to respond to our request and set the ball rolling.

September - David Eggleston, Richard Lee, Steve Watson, Hannah Watson, Julia Mewes, John Mewes, Gary Simons and Phil Porter descend on to South Road in Haywards Heath to raise £110. The event which coincided with Town Day also saw MDR providing the PA for the events on Victoria Park.

September - after two months of toeing and frowing over the design for the OBU, the final design was approved and was sent to the printer. Gary took the OBU to K2’s warehouse, where it was given it’s new outfit. Jason the designer and fitter has done a fantastic job, despite him having a stinking cold (or man flu as he called it!) The unit looks fantastic and certainly stands out in the crowd, go to our events page to take a look at the finished design!

October - MDR were given the go ahead to broadcast on 87.9fm under a Restricted Service Licence for 10 days.

November - turned out to be a busy month. The hunt started for a new supplier of branded clothing. We found the Print Asylum at Piltdown who have been fantastic in their help, and we hope to have these with us in January.

November 9th -18th -MDR broadcasting on 87.9fm to listeners OUTSIDE of the grounds of the Princess Royal Hospital. Ofcom (the radio/tv industry regulators) granted MDR permission to broadcast on fm for 10 days. This was to celebrate the end of MDR’s 30th anniversary year, which saw us pick up Charity of the Year at local radio station awards in 2006.

Saturday 10th November saw the team head to the Orchards shopping centre to take requests from Customers and shop staff. The whole day was a great publicity exercise, but we did raise £99.47.

The broadcast also coincided with Children In Need, and presenter John Joyce thought it would be a good idea to broadcast for 24 hours from 10pm on Thursday 15th to 10pm on Friday 16th, he did raise nearly £1500 for Children in Need.

The broadcast also saw a couple of past presenters return to the station, it was a welcome return to Tony Vinter who provided listeners with some random funny bits! Also, Alan Roy who spoke of Radio Cuckfield days. Cathy Barnett, provided a fascinating insight into Panto's and events from the days of Colwell Hospital Radio. So many memories came flooding back to many of our current members.

The week was rounded off with a party at the Birch Hotel, with guests Cllr Paddy Henry and Mayor Richard Goddard in attendance. The Mayor presented John Joyce with a certificate of his 24 hour broadcasting achievement.

December - Bit of a quieter time for MDR, with the recent RSL, everyone needed time to unwind, you must be joking!! Gary Simons was out with the newly dressed OBU and was present at Lindfield Village night on Thursday 6th, Cuckfield on Friday 7th and then out in the pouring rain in Haywards Heath on Sunday 9th collecting £67.10 and then Saturday 22nd, the mass annual Christmas Tin Shake at Sainsburys, It didn't seem as busy as normal, but we still raised £467.90.

Well done to everyone who came out and help with collections for MDR, and thank you to everyone who dug deep in to their pockets to fill our collection tins. We look forward to seeing you all in 2008!
