Hello from MDR

Cathy Barnett, MDR Chairman

Hi, to all our Mid Downs Radio listeners, old and new, we are so pleased you can now join us

wherever you are. You need never feel alone with our friendly radio team to listen

to 24 hours a day.

We can provide you with Hospital and Local Information, Weather, Sky News on the hour,

together with great music to suit all tastes.  We do understand that you can feel very lonely in

hospital and to aid your recovery, we aim to entertain and inform, keeping you part of our

community whether you are an in- or out-patient, a visitor, member of staff or a volunteer.

I am now in the third year of my term as Chairman and am so proud that we have

provided such an excellent service for over 42 years, going from strength to strength from

small beginnings.  Having started as a request collector, MDR has kept me busy in my

retirement carrying out various roles.

I love the way radio can keep you so ‘Young at Heart’.

To keep us on air, our volunteer members now have to fundraise at least £6,000 per year.

Most of our funds go to paying for new equipment, Licences, Insurances and keeping

our Outside Events Unit up to date so that it can raise much needed funds at events around

Mid-Sussex.  We get involved in Local Fairs, Teddy Tombolas, Swimarathons,

Live Band Nights and Shows and promotion of Charity Events such as Burgess Hill’s Annual

Garden Safari for St. Peter & St. James Hospice

Our latest Fundraising Project is the ‘Mid Downs Roadshow’.  We can provide all you

need to have a fun evening, including the services of professional DJ, ‘Discoman Lee’.

All our equipment is PAT Tested and we are fully insured.  So, if you are having a party,

celebration or just want background music for your event, then contact our events team,

and we will organise it all for you.

Thanks to our Website/Facebook expert, Luis, we now have a ‘Donate’ button on the

website, as well as our ‘Listen Live’ button, which enables you to hear us wherever you are

in the world!  To ask for a request, either e-mail us or give us a ring and we will be pleased to

play one for you.

Part of our Presenters Training Scheme, as well as encouraging presenters from all age groups and backgrounds, is to bring on young presenters who are interested in ‘Radio’ as a career.  We have had several over the years, who have gone on to careers at the BBC and other TV and Radio Stations.

If you would like to join us as a Presenter, Request Collector, Fundraiser, production or anything else, then why not contact David, the Membership Secretary.  Or if you would like to become a ‘Friend of Mid Downs Radio’ for a small donation, then this is your choice.  Members and Friends all receive a monthly Newsletter from ‘Sol’, which will inform you of all that is going on with MDR, including events, social evenings and get-togethers.

You can find our state of the art Studios on the 1st Floor of the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.  So, if you would like a tour or come in for a friendly interview, with Wendy and Mopsy, to promote your charity, event, new project or live music group, then please send us an e-mail.

Remember to keep the dial on 1350AM or listen to us online via the website and you too can feel part of the friendly Mid Downs Radio ‘family’ vibe.

Wherever you are, love to all of you from all of us, remember we care about you!
