Hello from MDR

Paul B , MDR Chairman

Hi, to all our Mid Downs Radio listeners, old and new, wherever you are. You need never feel alone with our friendly radio team if you listen to 24 hours a day.

We are a local registered charity entirely run by volunteers and we have been providing a service to local hospitals for over 45 years and in addition, thanks to Internet streaming, to listeners around the Mid-Sussex, the rest of the UK and to listeners in 47 other countries. We have been based in the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath since the 1990s.

As well great music and entertainment we provide our listeners with helpful information on health & well-being, NHS services, other charities, and local community services that may be helpful.

Although hosted and supported by the Princess Royal Hospital we are not funded by the NHS and our members have fundraise at least £6,000 per year. Most of our funds go to paying for new equipment, copyright & performance licences, insurances and keeping our Outside Events Unit up to date so that it can raise much needed funds at events around Mid-Sussex, including local Summer Fairs and Christmas Festivals.

We welcome any new ideas for fundraising and any offers to sponsor the radio station. We have a ‘Donate’ icon on the website should you wish to make a donation.

We also have a ‘Request A Song’ icon on the website which enables you to fill in your request and dedication and we will be pleased to play it for you.

One of the aims of our Presenters Training Scheme is to encourage young presenters who are interested in broadcasting or journalism as a career. Many well-known broadcasters started off in hospital radio and we have a successful track record in helping young people on this first important step in their career.

But we welcome people of all ages and backgrounds, including retired people who are looking for a way of contributing to their local community and have experience and skills they feel would be of value to us. It does not have to be a full-time commitment. We will take whatever time they have available.

If you would like to join us as a presenter, request collector, fundraiser, production support, accountancy support, or anything else, then why not contact David Hammond, the Membership Secretary. Or if you would just like to become a ‘Friend of Mid Downs Radio’ and show your support for a small donation for which you will be kept informed of fund raising and social activities and events, then this is your choice.

You can find our Studios on the 1st Floor of the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath. If you would like a tour or come in for a friendly interview, with Wendy and Mopsy, to promote your charity, event, new project, or live music group, then please send us an e-mail.

You can listen to us within the Princess Royal Hospital via the Hospedia bedside units, speakers around the hospital or on 1350am. Inside and outside the hospital you can listen to MDR through our Internet streaming service via the TuneIn or other radio apps or via the MDR website.

And whatever you favourite choice of music…..current chart hits, classical, folk, soul, reggae, country, rock, big band and swing music or your choice of decade from the 50s through to the present day…. you will find it on MDR. Variety is our strength.

Wherever you are listen to MDR all of the day and all of the night!
