I am John Cook

Welcome to my profile

Tuesdays 14:00 - 16:00 pm

John has always been a massive music fan and has amassed a vast vinyl collection over the years. He started doing discos at the local youth club at the age of fifteen with 2 record decks in an old drawer. He progressed to being a club DJ in some of London’s major nightclubs.

He was co-owner of a record shop in Croydon for several years. During this time, he was also a mobile DJ for many years working in local workings men’s clubs.

His first taste of hospital Radio was in 1980 with St Lawrence’s Hospital Caterham as part of Horizon Radio. When St Lawrence’s closed in 1994, he joined Farnborough Hospital Radio in Kent. He was a regular presenter for 10 years and was Chairman for the last few years with them.

In 2004 John moved to Haywards Heath and took a break from presenting due to work commitments. Now semi-retired he has decided to go back to his love of presenting and has joined MDR where he presents his Afternoon Delight Show on Tuesday, and also co-presents with Dave ‘Doc’ Hammond on Thursdays.

His other great love is Crystal Palace Football Club, he has followed them from the age of 8, and is a long-term season ticket holder, something shared with his wider family. He doesn’t think that his move to Sussex will include changing his allegiance to the Seagulls any time soon, regardless of what his fellow presenters say.
