The Vinyl Disco organised by Sol at the Sloop Inn in Scaynes Hill, to celebrate fifty years of playing vinyl raised £400 for MDR. Throughout the evening Sol played a mixture of 45s and LPs with some of the singles being nearly 60 years old, but still sounding good. Anyone wanting a request was charged £2 and there was a bucket collection plus a donation from the owners of the pub Gary & Nicky
The evening was made more special when some of Sol’s old friends turned up from the 1960s that were at the Railway Tavern in Stratford in East London in 1968, which was one of Sol’s early gigs. To celebrate the occasion they presented Sol with a short poem as follows
He set the turntables on fire
With Soul his abiding desire
And 50 years on
He’s still spinning strong
With no real desire to retire
It was a great evening of music and non-stop dancing with old fashion disco lights taking us all back in time.
