t was a great pleasure to welcome Mid Sussex MP Alison Bennett in to talk about her personal experience as a first time MP. She explained about the practice of ‘bobbing’ to attract attention to ask questions in Parliament and gave some advice to anyone wanting to get into politics . Lola Gurr joined the show as a guest observer.
Susan Ferguson and later Sarah Harrison from Rokskool and Hannah Carter from Ensemble Reza talked to us about RezaRoks, their upcoming collaboration of Rock and Classical music to raise funds for both their community music projects.

‘We had a great afternoon with guests Amanda Jayne and Matt Newnham. Amanda talked about how she has built an orphanage in Zambia in the name of her son Cameron who died while in the RAF. She said she has done a lot of things outside her comfort zone - including coming on a radio show for the first time! The orphanage now has a school as well and donations to Cameron’s Orphanage are always welcome.
Matt read an excerpt from his delightful children’s book Space Ranger Fred and the Shoelace Adventure and talked about his plans to turn it into an animated film series . Copies of the book are on sale at the Post Office in Lindfield. ‘

We were discussing the subject of why men don’t talk but Martin Retter, Simon Peters and Gordon Sharkey from the Bentswood Hub men’s talking group didn’t have any problem telling listeners how much they have benefitted from their weekly meetings often encouraged by wives and partners. All three have had their problems in different ways and that diversity is they say what makes the group so effective. Any man is welcome to drop in at the Hub in America Lane on a Wednesday evening and enjoy a meal and good company.
We had an action packed show with three great gustes talking about what makes us feel good. Rebecca Moore Fitness Instructor from Broccoli & Biceps, Chef Chloe Coker from charity Impact and Samantha Doyle Homeopath and owner of Fountain Therapies told us about how exercise , food and homeopathic remedies can all contribute to making us feel good ..there was a rare moment of quiet when Rebecca led us all in a short meditation !
We had a great show chatting to Rashid founder and director of Cool4School in Lindfield and two of his students the irrepressible Ryan and Mae. They gave a 5 star review of the after school activities they attended and Rashid explained the values of kindness and sharing he was keen to encourage as well as an openness to trying new food and a basic knowledge of the value of money by earning credits through good behaviour ..

Great to have Age UK’s Sara Smart and Richard Harris in to tell listeners about the work of Age Uk Volunteers in the community and the wide range of activities and events available to members . Deputy Mayor Duncan Pascoe came to explain why The Altzeimers society is the Mayor’s chosen charity this year with 1 in 3 people predicted to be afflicted with some form of dementia .
Great to follow our studio interview with Bookfest organiser Sheila Mortimer it was wonderful to sit in on Lady Colin Campbell’s revelations of the facts behind her latest book about Harry & Megan .. it was great fun with a few interesting little snippets of gossip to whet our appetites ..

Florence was an entertaining and interesting guest with a passion for her Performance Arts academy which teaches children performance skills in Comedy & Drama, Musical Theatre and Film & TV. “

What does it take to build a diorama ? Local artist Paul Milton brought one of his into the studio to show us and explained how he made the various textures .. a fascinating afternoon ably assisted by guest co-host Savannah Louw from St Paul’s Catholic School .. we also talked about Paul’s other skills with painting, knitting and working with textiles as well as his passion for model railways and how it had helped him with his autism and why he was always willing to give other people tips.

It was an intriguing mix to have rock royalty Blur drummer Dave Rowntree and video game designer and Zombieland creator Will Porter chatting about Blur music and their involvement with the Beagle 2 Mars project .. great fun.
Lovely afternoon with my guest Rotarian David Wilson co-organiser of this year’s Rotary Rocks in aid of St Peter & St James Hospice in memory of Rokskool founder Hereward Kaye.. David is a musician himself playing in the Happy Days Big Band and had some great anecdotes to tell.
A fascinating afternoon talking to Linda Grace who with her colleague Margaret edited the diaries of local lady Helena Hall now published as ‘A Woman living in the Shadow of the Second World War’ a very apt subject on the eve of the 80th anniversary of DDay. We were joined by Bob White a volunteer in Outpatients to talk about volunteering as it is also the 40th Anniversary of Volunteers Week.
It was a lively show with Gordon Sharkey from Bentswood Hub CI C and Tom Cunningham - Coleshill winner of the HHTC Young Volunteer of the Year Award. We heard about Gordon’s childhood in Northern Ireland and his love for making coffee .. why serving the community through the Bentswood Hub CIC with his wife Anna, Jo and a dedicated team is so important and his love of making coffee although he doesn’t drink it himself!

We had a fascinating afternoon talking to Dr Marc Abraham OBE about his astonishing life and work as a vet and animal welfare campaigner and author of 4 books including ‘Be more Mosquito’ s guide to setting up and running a campaign . We heard about his successful campaign for Lucy’s Law , working in Parliament on APDAWG, being part of Paul O Grady’s TV show team and finding Dylan the No 10 rescue dog for Boris Johnson along with a host of other tales from resuming dancing bears to dog meat factories to getting an OBE from the then Prince Charles. Shirley Emilio said afterwards what a privilege it was to meet someone so motivated and genuine in his field of work. We asked about holiday time .. it doesn’t happen .. !! Thank you for your time Marc look forward to hearing the rest of the story ..
Great fun show with associate vicar and musician Ben Lucas from All Saints Church Lindfield , Hannah Travers and Mike Webster from the hugely popular Lindfield Community Voices Choir which already has a waiting list to join . We talked about the way music can help and heal and the benefits to the community ., lots of interesting chat and we were treated to live music from Ben on guitar.
What a privilege to welcome on the show talented musician Will Guy and Rory Kaye Director of Rokskool Haywards Heath along with award winning jeweller Richard Talman who told us about his amazing career as a goldsmith and how he came to be working on TVs Repair Shop. Richard designs bespoke jewellery in both gold and silver at his workshops in Wivelsfield. Rory introduced Will who is one of the Rokskool students and told us about his father’s legacy building Rokskool up as a musical family with students of all ages and why he is excited about the brand new Rokskool due to be completed in May and then CIC they have set up to offer tuition to local charities.
We had a great afternoon show with Lisa Westbury finding out about Time 4 Children the charity that helps children of primary school age using volunteers trained in reflective listening and other techniques . Haywards Heath Mayor Stephanie Inglesfield ..also a mother of 4 has chosen it for her Mayor’s charity this year and talked about the fundraiser she is holding for the charity-she also told listeners about her work as mayor supporting local charities and businesses and about her life before her childhood in the Alps her time in Dubai as a prison visitor… and her love of cheese sandwiches and crime thrillers. Great time thank you both for giving us your time.
A very interesting afternoon talking to Sam Shephard and Kate Mellor from Headway Sussex and Hilary Kennett Lindfield Arts Festival about the effects of acquired brain injury and how Headway based in Newick heloed both Sam and Kate and why the charity is so valuable and supportive for both the patient and their loved ones.
