Poppa Roy has the right to call himself a true cockney, as he was born and spent the first 21 years of his live in the East End of London and when you listen to him on the radio, his humour shows this off perfectly.

After spending many years on stage in such shows as Fiddler on the Roof, South Pacific and many others, Roy then turned his hand to directing and for a number of years he put on shows with semi professional artists for local charities.

It was then that he acquired the name' Poppa Roy', as his Granddaughters call him Poppa - the cast just added Roy to it and thereafter Poppa Roy it was.

He joined MDR about eight years ago and you can hear him presenting his radio show 'from 1.00 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. every Tuesday he also works with the outside broadcast unit at many events in the area. He and the 'Poppa Roy Players' have put on several shows for the radio and other charities in this area.pm.

You might also see Roy at the League of Friends coffee shop on the ground floor of the Princess Royal Hospital where he volunteers too.
